Department’s Profile
The Department of Political and Social Sciences is involved in teaching Master’s and Bachelor’s course modules in both full time and part time form of study. It provides teaching of Bachelor’s programme course modules (Political Sciences and Economy, Comparison of Political Systems).
The Department’s main focus is Master’s degree programmes. It delivers teaching of compulsory modules of the ‘International and Public Relations’ programme (International Relations, International Economy). The department is also responsible for teaching special modules of ‘European Union and Public Administration’ programme (Decision-making and Analysis in Politics, Prognosis and Strategic Planning), and ‘International and Diplomacy Studies’ programme (Geopolitics of Central Europe, Theory and Practice of Political Conflicts Solution, International Economic Relations, Economy and Politics, Economic Aspects of Globalization Processes).
The department is a guarantor of ‘Political Science and Politics in International Relations’ programme. Besides teaching most of this programme’s compulsory modules the department also delivers teaching of its course called ‘Decision-making in Politics’. This course is designed for those seriously interested in understanding the role of politics in modern society and intending to work in public administration, political parties or social organizations.
The department members actively participate in research and publication activities. The department participated in a 2008 grant project called ‘Energy Security – Geopolitical Connections’ funded by the ČEZ Foundation. The outcome of this activity was an anthology, published in cooperation with Slovak and Russian experts. The members of the department also take part in another grant project called Economic Dimensions of the Czech Diplomacy and Its Application in Relation to the West Balkan Countries.
